Steve
Deal
Steve's
music reflects a deep love for the great southland and the God
who made it. Most of his instrumental songs were inspired by God
and the beautiful Aussie landscape that he grew up in. "As
a kid I used to lay down on the trampoline in the back yard and
look to the sky as thousands of Galahs flew over head" said
Steve. " Scenes like this are so clear and vivid in my memory,
I can smell the air, hear the sounds and see the birds, the colors
and the awesome sky over Cootamundra in my minds eye and that
is what track 2 on my native birds cd or track 2 on the spirit
of Australia cd were written out of".
Steve grew up in the small country town of Cootamundra in rural
Australia. He learned to play the drums and started playing in
a garage band at the age of 15. While backpacking around the USA
in 1988 at the age 18, Steve picked up his first guitar and immediately
began writing songs. Steve honed his guitar playing skills in
clubs around Sydney but mostly by playing in a band in church
every week for 10 years. Currently, Steve works as a music director
at Christian city church in Atlanta and has 7 instrumental albums
signed with Holborne and several worship cds being distributed
in many different countries. His music is in demand around the
world and Steve often speaks and teaches at conferences around
the USA. Steve, his wife Georgie and 3 kids currently reside in
Atlanta Georgia but he still calls Australia home.
Steve said recently "When me and all my mates were growing
up, we wanted to get out of town and head to the city. Now I live
in Atlanta GA, that's a long way from Coota, but I long to go
back to Cootamundra and sit by Muttama creek like I used to on
an old dirt road just outside of town and play my guitar on the
hood of my car like I used to with hundreds of Cockatoos and Galahs
flying overhead, endless sky, sheep everywhere, it was awesome".
Steve's favorite thing to do is to take his guitar, find a huge
mountain and worship God outside, in solitude and make music.
Steve has 7 cd's signed with Holborne, Spirit of Australia, Outback,
Mountains, Native Birds, Didgeridoo dreaming, Ancient Rhythms
and Marine Life.
